Alkan Air

Whitehorse, Yukon
Kobayashi + Zedda in collaboration with its development arm, 360° Design Build, were retained as a design build contractor for the $1 million renovation to the Alkan Air Office and hangar at the Whitehorse airport.

The renovation was undertaken to provide a more comfortable surroundings for charter passengers as well as pilots, flight crew and office staff.

The interior colour scheme of the renovated passenger lounge area was based on the northern boreal forest.

The mechanical system was completely retrofitted to improve air quality and a hydronic system provides a more consistent heat and greater comfort. In addition, the out-dated punch windows were replaced with super insulated fiberglass windows that will triple the visibility from the office and dispatch area to the flight apron and runway, a critical factor in Alkan’s flight operations.

The renovation was completed within a tight timeline to avoid down-time in Alkan’s busy spring and summer charter operation.
